In 1925, a team led by Balto, a Siberian Husky, ran serum to Nome, averting a diphtheria outbreak. This inspired the popular international sled dog race called the Iditarod. The Alaskan Husky dominates the sled dog competitions in Alaska. The Alaskan Husky is not really considered a breed of dog anywhere in the world; it is considered a type of dog.
