Due to its depiction in ancient Egyptian artwork, the Egyptian Mau is thought to be the cat that was domesticated from a spotted subspecies of the African Wild Cat. This breed was held in the utmost respect. They were worshipped as deities, cherished as pets, protected by laws, and mummified and mourned at their death. The Egyptian Mau has an intense devotion to its human family.
