The term "tabby" is derived from the name of silk, which was produced in one of Middle East countries. Later, striped-lined tiger-type colored cats were referred to as tabbies. The Ancient Egypt is believed to be the motherland of the modern domestic tabby. The Roman and Greek traders contributed to the cat's spreading around Asia, Europe, and later the cat arrived on the American continent. Color patterns feature various combinations of dark strips and spots.
