The Russian Blue is thought to have been brought by sailors to England and Northern Europe from the Archangel Isles in the 1860s. Claims have also been made that they descended from the Royal Cat of the Russian Czars and that this breed was a favorite of Queen Victoria. Their coat is very beautiful and easily distinguished from other breeds. It is a bright blue, with tips of the hairs being silver.
