Hawks or hawk-like birds (e.g. eagles) have hooked beaks with cere (fleshy covering on upper beak,) sharp talons, and black, white, brown, rufous (reddish-brown,) and gray coloration. They are diurnal carnivorous predators. Their sizes and shapes differ; females are typically larger than males. Different weights, tail lengths, and wing shapes allow these hawks to fly fast, maneuver easily, or soar gracefully. Many species call loudly during the breeding season signaling courtship and aggression.
