Bright all-colored Gouldian Finch is a study in color, as their head, breast, and back colors not only determine the gender, but also the dominance/recessive gene traits. Their higher protein requirement than other finches may result higher losses, however, proper diet of protein, fats, carbohydrate ratio from seeds can produce hardy birds. Molting to adult plumage may take 9 months. They are notorious for expelling from the nest their young early and territorial fighting for nesting.
