A pinkish white bill, which leads to a red face, a white patch behind the eyes and a black crown and nape characterizes the European Goldfinch. This perching bird nests in trees and eats small seeds such as thistles and teasels, but may also take insects. They inhabit mostly partially wooded lowlands across Europe and Asia, however, have populated southern Australia after their introduction in the 1850s. As songbirds, they have a pleasant silvery twittering.
