The life span of the species is about 30 years and for most of their lives these intelligent and quiet creatures make good pets for people who don’t like much noise in the house. Young birds have a dull plumage and become brighter very slow as they mature.

These parrots are rather easy to breed and raise. They are undemanding to their nesting place and have about 5 eggs in the clutch. The eggs incubate for 26 days and both parents sit on them. They're ready to leave the nest when they are about 8 weeks old. Chicks look cute in photos, but the full glory is found in a fully-grown bird.
