Peafowl have an unusual appearance. Their head is small with a stout bill. The neck is relatively long. Peahens have small spurs on their long legs. The body of the peafowl is large. Their tail is short and the elongated feathers of their train hide the tail.

The Congo peafowl can be found in the forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
