Animal breeders will sometimes take a picture or photo of their best pets.
The Painted Desert Sheep come in a great variety of sizes. Even now there is no strict standard of their size. The rams are larger than the ewes and their size varies due to the influence of other breeds. The ewes weigh from 60 to 120 pounds and the rams weigh from 75 to 200 pounds.

The Painted Desert Sheep have been crossed with other breeds such as Merino, Jacob, Navajo Churro and Rambouillet. The aim of this interbreeding was to improve the horn and reach trophy class quicker. Every breed has different shaped horns.
