Manx

The manx cat breeder will usually have a photo available of the foundation cats. These cats are believed to have originated hundreds of years ago on the Isle of Man, off the coast of England. Since many trade ships docked on the Isle, and all had ship cats, it is hard to tell just what the parent cat really was. Obviously, both longhair and shorthair were represented in the original mutation. The manx cat breeder will usually have a photo available of the foundation cats.

Since the tailless gene is dominant, kittens that inherit it can have a full tail, a short tail, a rise, or no tail at all. There are several categories of these cats: the “rumpies” (the completely tailless cats), the “risers” (cats with a rise of the spine that may be felt), the - “stumpies” (cats with a very short tail), the “stubbies” (cats with a partial tail) and the fully tailed cats. The manx cat breeder will usually have a photo available of the foundation cats.
