These dogs descend from one of the most ancient dog breeds in recorded history. It has been estimated that the breed originated around 6,000 B.C. to 8,000 years ago. These dogs might have descended from a Spitz-type dog that was bred by the peoples of the area, which is now south central Europe.

These dogs have straight long hair, which hangs almost to the ground if unclipped. The color of the coat is white, although slight lemon or tan markings on the ears are acceptable.
