Puppy Basic puppy training is provided in all rescues. These hounds are excellent hunters and were developed specially for deer and boar racking. They are able to follow even cold scent and can be used for tracking poachers, thieves and cross-border raiders. With the decline of hunting the use of these hounds diminished. Also called Grosser Münsterlander Vorstehhund.

The breed was introduced to France and became known as Chien de ST. Hubert. In America, these hounds were used for tracking runaway slaves, lost people and criminals. The hounds of this breed are very large, ranging from 24 to 28 inches at the withers and weighing over 130 pounds. Basic puppy training is provided in all rescues.
