There are two types of this species, such as the Poodle/Labrador mix, and the Australian type, which consists of 6 different species. Originally, these animals emerged as a result of a cross between the Labrador retriever and the Poodle. The main aim of this cross was to create a new "pedigree" with the best attributes of the original pedigrees. The species originated in Australia in the 1970s. It was a classic example of logical and planned cross breeding. Nowadays, these animals are known for their outstanding intelligence and trainability, low allergy coat, low to non-shedding coat, and lack of doggie odor.

They possess a slightly longer than square build and are rather compact and neither exceptionally boxy nor long bodied. They are best suited for allergy sufferers who always wanted to own a pet and could not afford it because of health problems. These animals are very loving, social, highly trainable, easily maintained, quiet, and excellent family companions.
