These animals live in many habitats and prefer to settle in tropical deciduous and evergreen forest, and open grasslands. They were also reported to settle in disused buildings. They have long legs and tail with faint stripes, and large ears.

At an early age, they are heavily spotted, yet these markings disappear by about six months of age. The species is mostly nocturnal, yet in some areas, they have been known to come out at daylight to hunt. Their common prey includes small mammals, reptiles, rodents, and insects.
