These creatures are not brightly colored compared to their counterparts. They have brown body with whitish chest. Their head and throat are deep red and the bill is rather long. The eyes are almond-shaped and dark. Like all birds of their kind they feed on nectar. Rufous humming bird chicks are always beautiful in a photo.
