Hummingbird Nests

Hummingbird nests are the smallest of bird nests and can be viewed in most zoo aviaries. Before mating females make small constructions out of moss, leaves, twigs and spider web. Sometimes old sites are re-used and females add a new construction on the other, creating tall structures. Usually there are two eggs in the litter. Bird, Aviaries

Males don’t take part in building the shelter and feeding the young. They just breed with the females and disappear. The mother incubates the eggs about 15-22 days and than feeds the babies, which are born naked and blind. Hummingbird nests are the smallest of bird nests and can be viewed in most zoo aviaries.
