Horse Trailers
Horse owners believe that there is no such thing as a perfect horse trailer, but they have to transport their horses and make the best of the horse trailers they have. Horse trailers can be of various sizes, designs and carrying capacities. Some trailers can be installed in a few minutes; others carry on for many years. Some of them are comfortable for horses; others are convenient for the owners. The most important thing in a horse trailer is its towing capacity.
Various horse trailers are used for various purposes. The main types of horse trailers are the following:
- Straight-load trailers are the most widely used. The construction allows the horse to hold its weight on his legs; it's not good for long rides.
- Stock horse trailers are safer and more comfortable for animals. Such trailers have a plank placed near the eye of the horses for proper airing, adjustable vents, and windowpanes. In stock horse trailers, animals are less stressed during transportation.
- Slant-load horse trailers reduce stress on the animal during acceleration and sharp stops. Only large horses are comfortable in such trailers. The usable space in slant-road trailers is only 8 feet, which makes them uncomfortable for several horses.
- Semi-trailers support a large portion of the horse weight. Such trailers are very flexible while using.
Horse fanciers usually choose trailers designed from the horses' point of view. Many owners add extra options for safety and convenience and even make horse trailers with their own hands.
Horse trailers available from the market are designed for two, four, six or more animals. Large horses need to be transported in extra-large trailers. Expensive trailers that have appeared recently provide easy and safe access to each individual horse. It's possible to convert a stall in some horse trailers to a box stall specifically attuned to cargo.
The most well-known of the horse trailer companies include Sundowner, Elite, Blue Ribbon, Ponderosa, Delta, Exiss, and Moritz. Used trailers can be as good as new ones but only if they were bought from a formerly careful owner. Old brands of horse trailers that can be bought today include Featherlite, Pro Lite, Trail-et, Keifer, Merhow, Bloomer, Sooner, American Spirit, Eby, Rustler, Bison, Shadow, Gore, Lakota, Exiss, Elite, and Hawk.
