Horse Care
Horse care is a tough, serious matter requiring full discretion and oversight by the owner. Horse care involves careful attention to the ears, eyes, and facial patterns for signs of discomfort. Proper training is necessary to break the horse away from instincts and built-in fears that impede work on the farm and herding, for instance. Horse care also delves into health problems, horse tacks, and optimal nutritional requirements. Different patterns exist for each season, and parasites will always need to be dealt with. The long-term health of your horse is a financial imperative to boot.
If you are a first time horse owner then you really should become an amateur expert on horse care. One of the first things in horse care that you should know is what to feed your horse; most people assume it is hay. Hay is a staple in the horse feed but there is much more to feeding a horse than giving them hay to chew on. One of the best things that you can do to feed your horse properly is by allowing them access to a great green pasture. Horse are selective when they graze so make sure that you have a nice section of land set aside for your horse.
It may be hard to tell if your horse is eating too much or too little. There is something called a body condition scoring that has been used by horse owners to determine whether or not your horse is getting the proper diet. You may also want to consult with a vet if you are concerned. Another part of horse care is taking care of the exercise for the horse. If a horse gets injured they cannot do much else. So make sure that if your horse is for recreational riding that you raise them with care. Never overwork a horse in recreational riding or in training.
Horse care also included horse health care. Make sure that your horse is eating enough and getting plenty of water. Groom your horse often; you want to make sure that their coats are shining and glossy. If you start to see a dull sheen on your horse, it may be a sign of something else. Contact your vet and maintain the horse care you have been doing until otherwise told. Remember the most important thing in horse care is to keep your horse healthy.
