If you have decided on a breed to buy, puppy information and pictures can be found on the internet or from a Gordon Setter puppy book. Black and tan type hounds existed in the 1600s, and Alexander, the 4th Duke of Gordon, established the breed in the beginning of the 19th century. They have taken part in dog shows since 1862. Only in 1972 the British Kennel Club gave the official classification to the breed.
