Heated Dog House
A regular old dog house can be converted into a heated dog house with the purchase of a simple heated mat. These special mats save you a lot of money. First of all, electric blankets and heated mats designed for human use can get too hot and cause painful sores, blisters, and hair loss in pets. Special dog mats have built-in thermostats and can’t go above a certain temperature, 102 degrees Fahrenheit, which is a dog’s body temperature. A dog enjoys snuggling up with another dog for warmth, and, of course, the mat mimics the effects of another dog’s body heat factor. Since the mat will have a cord going out from it, make sure that there is a protective, safety metal, inlay coating around the cord. Some animals like to chew, and it could be dangerous.
There are more ways then ever to fashion a heated dog house. One of the more popular methods is to get a standalone AC/heater because it’s flexible in and out of seasons, and it can be moved out or in when needed. A smaller, less hot heater box can be put in the house too.
Always build the heated dog house off the ground, make it small enough that body heat can be preserved but large enough for the addition of a heater, put a cover on the doorway, and insulate the house. Furthermore, the slanted roof will not let cold water or snow accumulate. You can also build the house several inches off the ground with concrete in between the floor of the house and the cold ground. If possible, move the dog house away from the heavy winds during winter and toward the sun. Include a wind hallway that’s about a foot and a half long that kind of prevents the wind from coming directly in. Two coverings, one at the entrance of the dog house and another at the end of the wind hallway, will keep out most of the chilly air.
A heated dog house with a heated foam pad, insulated walls, and a wind-proof, double-hinged, secure door is just what your dog needs to stave off the worst winter chills. There’s nothing better than the certainity of a warm pet during chilly times, in the comfort of a heated dog house.
