The habitat of the bird ranges from north Brazil and the Guyanas to south-eastern Columbia and north-eastern Peru. The species is considered to be endangered due to deforestation and extensive pet-trade business. Some species are nearly extinct, and there are no more than a dozen of them in the wild.
