As a rule, the females begin to lay eggs in April or May. The incubation period is about 26 to 28 days. The average litter size is about three to five dozen eggs. Young birds are usually called "keets.” The females seldom lay eggs in the chickens’ nests in the hen house.

pictures, photo
It is rather difficult to distinguish the sex of these birds. The males are slightly larger than the females and have larger head appendages. In captivity, these birds are raised for their delicious meat and are generally not difficult to care for. When purchasing guinea hens, don't rely on the pictures or photo galleries.
