Domestic Cavy lives to be 5 or 6 years on the average, yet there are exceptions to this. When kept as pets, they should not be bred until they are at least 20 weeks of age. Three young are common for the species.

Also called Helmeted Guinea Fowl, Vulturine Guinea Fowl.
A broad head and a short face with a moustache around the nose and large bright eyes are characteristic of the species. The ears are petal shaped and droop and their bodies are relatively long.
