There are many different kinds of cavies, but don’t think about them, because what you really need is a short haired cavy. When you come to choose your cavy, be attentive and try to choose a healthy one. Buy at least two animals of the same sex, otherwise you will quickly have more cute animals than you can handle. The suggesting animals should be at least six weeks old. Observe the behavior of the animals and choose active cavies, but not those that seem despondent. Examine the animals’ appearance; the animals should have bright eyes and clear ears and nose, and should have shiny, silky fur all over including under the bottom.
