A guinea pig litter may sell quickly; some farms do quite well raising this rodent for the commerical market.
Pregnancy of females lasts for about 63 days. They give birth to 3-4 young. The young are born fully furred and are able to walk about. They are born with teeth and open eyes. But still the newborn young should be allowed to nurse their mother for at least 2 weeks. In the wild these animals live in family groups. The groups consist of sexually mature male and several females. These animals are 25-36 cm long. Newborn animals weigh 60-115 grams; adults weigh 700-1.500 grams.

Cavies are mainly plant-eaters; they can be fed with carrot, beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, peas, green leaves, but not lettuce, it causes colic. They should have a daily supply of fresh vegetables and hay. These products provide cavies with the fiber, vitamins and minerals they require to stay fit and healthy. A coarse mix provides everything your cavy needs including vitamins and minerals and comes in one handy bag. Also, they should be provided with a salt ring and “chews” to gnaw on them. These animals know what is good for them and also how much is good for them, but try not to over feed them.
