Breeding Guinea Pigs

Breeding guinea pigs and birds requires talent and hard work; you really need hands-on advice to learn how; you can always take a picture of either kind; that's much easier. A female should be first bred before 7 months of age. It is very harmful for the female if the first breeding is delayed. Females should be first bred between 3 and 7 months of age and males should be 3-4 months old at their first breeding. The heat cycle lasts 16 days and the period during which the sow is receptive to the boar and will allow breeding lasts about 8 hours. The female cavies can come back into heat 15 hours after giving birth which means that they can be nursing a litter and pregnant at the same time. Pregnancy of these creatures lasts for about 63 days. Females’ abdomen becomes grossly enlarged during the latter stages of pregnancy. As the gestation period is rather large and as pregnant sows do not build nests, it can be rather hard to determine the time of delivery. They give birth to 3-4 young in a litter. The young are born fully furred and are able to walk about. They are born with teeth and open eyes. But still the newborn young should be allowed to nurse their mother for at least 2 weeks. Breeding guinea pigs and birds requires talent and hard work; you really need hands-on advice to learn how; you can always take a picture of either kind; that's much easier.
