Guinea Pig Feeding

Guinea pig feeding is pretty inexpensive; they prefer pellets, hay, and vegetables; these rodents are certainly one of the cutest; see a photo online. In the wild these animals eat a range of grasses, seeds, weeds, bugs, grubs, and fruit. Some owners think that these rodents are herbivores, but it isn’t so. Cavies are omnivores and their diet should contain protein to keep them healthy. In captivity, they should be fed twice a day, every day. Use only fresh products. These animals are not able to produce Vitamin C that is why their food should also contain this vitamin. In addition to the ordinary products, you should also give your cavy cabbage or kale at least 3 times a week, or else give him a Vitamin C supplement. As they have continuously-growing front teeth, they should be provided with some fibrous materials to help wear down their teeth. If you have an animal of a long haired type, you should brush its coat regularly with a soft brush. Bathing your cavy, you should use only a mild pet shampoo. The animal’s nails should be trimmed about every six weeks or as necessary. If you are a novice owner and have no idea about trimming a cavy, consult a vet or knowledgeable person for instructions. Normally, responsible breeders will provide information on the types of the species and care requirements for these animals. Guinea pig feeding is pretty inexpensive; they prefer pellets, hay, and vegetables; these rodents are certainly one of the cutest; see a photo online.
