They weigh about 2-3 pounds and are approximately 10 inches long. They have rounded stout body, short head, short legs, and no tail. They are widely spread throughout Central and South America. In captivity they can be fed with special food for these very animals, supplemented with carrot, beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, peas, green leaves, but not lettuce, it causes colic. They should also be provided with a salt ring and “chews” to gnaw on them.
