In the wild, these animals inhabit long grass or abandoned burrows. In captivity, these rodents should be kept in spacious cages. They are rather active and like to run around at great speed and that is why they need room to do this. A cage of one foot by one foot for each cavy will be sufficient. A flat wooden tray about 2 feet wide by 3 feet long with a side all around at least 8 inches high will be a great play room. Of course, you can buy a special, multi-layer, super stacking, wonder house, but it will be rather expensive.
