In the wild, these animals inhabit open, grassy areas. They are plant-eaters and in captivity should eat apple, birch or willow branches, dried (whole grain) bread crusts, hay and firm vegetables such as carrots and broccoli stems. These animals like company; they get lonely living on their own and that is why, it is recommended to buy at least two cavies. The animals should be of the same sex; otherwise, soon you become an owner of such number of cavies that it will be a real problem to handle them. Profiles on domestic guinea pigs and bird pictures are something you'll see at a fairly big pet site.
