Guinea Pig Breeding
Guinea pig breeding is what breeders of these fine rodents do best.
In captivity they can be fed with carrot, beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, peas, green leaves, but not lettuce, it causes colic. Sometimes a treat for your pet can be fruits. Also, they should be provided with a salt ring and “chews” to gnaw on them. Prior to purchasing a pet, educate yourself on the specifics of the species and make sure you are aware of the care requirements. Since there are a few types of the species, it is important to decide which one will suit you best. If you are a novice owner, it is recommended to buy a cavy of a short haired breed.

Guinea Pig Breeding -
breeders, rodents
Generally these creatures are rather large for rodents. They weigh between 1 and 3 pounds and measure 10 to 15 inches long. A female cavy should be first bred before 7 months of age, late pregnancy can lead to serious, even life threatening, problems. The females usually give birth to 1-7 young in a litter. The babies are born rather large; they are about 70-100 grams at birth. They are born with open eyes and fully furred; they also have teeth and can walk about. The young begin to eat solid food when only 2 or 3 days old, though they nurse for 2 - 3 weeks. The young cavies become sexually mature at about 60 or 70 days of life. An average life span of these animals is four to seven years. Guinea pig breeding is what breeders of these fine rodents do best.
