It is very important to know that female cavy should be first bred before 7 months of age. If the first breeding is delayed, there may appear serious problems with delivery. Sometimes these problems may even be life-threatening. Males are able to breed at 34 month of age. Females are pregnant for 63 days. It is a rather large gestation period for rodents. The young are born relatively mature with open eyes and fully furred. They also have teeth and can walk about. The young begin to eat solid food when only 2 or 3 days old, though they nurse for 2 - 3 weeks. If you want to learn about breeding guinea pig rodents, request teaching from a breeder.
