The fur of the pet should be shiny, silky all over the body including under the bottom. Pay attention to the animal’s behavior as well. Look for an active cavy, not one that seems bored. The animal should be friendly and do not bite each other or try to bite you. Just look at the suggested animals and choose the one with a temperament that you like.

You should use only pine shavings, not cedar, for guinea pigs. As they also like to chew the shavings, you’d better place the shavings on the floor of the enclosure for about inch or two high.
