All dogs surrendered by their owners to rescues or found stray are tested for temperament and health before accepting them into the rescue program. For some time, they are kept in foster homes for rehabilitation. Problematic behavior is easy to correct with proper training and enough attention. Foster owners access the dogs’ personality and then help find a most suited family for each dog. When treated with kindness, abused dogs become very attached to the new owners and form close bonds with the new family. If a problem arises during a period of adjustment, a dog can be returned back to the rescue.

The breed originated in Great Britain in the late 19th century and soon became popular all over the world due to its excellent disposition and versatility. Being natural hunting companions, the dogs possess intelligence, curiosity, keen sense of smell and endurance. They can be used as working dogs for drugs detection, for people rescue in avalanches and ruins; they also make efficient guides for the blind and service and therapy dogs for the disabled.
