Nowadays, these dogs are rarely used for their original purpose, but most of them enjoy swimming and retrieving. Swimming is excellent exercise for a dog, but the master should not toss a dog into the water, if it doesn’t want to. Like other sporting breeds, these dogs need plenty of exercise. Fully grown dogs benefit best from regular periods of high intensity activity; puppies should be exercised more carefully, as they may damage their joints when jumping or running fast.
