Before adoption, dogs live in foster families for some time and are socialized and cared for, so new owners have to pay a donation fee to partially cover the expenses on boarding and feeding. Every applicant fills out an adoption application with lots of questions.

If the owners cannot devote much time to the dog, it tends to become bored and uninterested; many dogs develop bad habits, such as chewing, digging or barking just to amuse themselves when left alone. Some owners give their dogs up because of personal or financial problems. Such dogs are usually in a perfect condition and free from health and behavior defects.
