There is little difference between sexes in this breed. Both males and females are intelligent, affectionate and good with children. Aggression towards dogs and people rarely occurs in males of this breed, but some males may mark the territory if other males are present. Neutering a male helps avoid such problems. Neutering a female is obligatory, unless she was bought from a reputable kennel specially for showing or breeding. Having a purebred dog does not mean that it can be bred, because breeding requires careful screening of both parents.
