Dixie Golden Retriever Rescue welcomes any breeder or kennel that are devoted to the breed.
These dogs were designed for fetching the game on both land and water. Most of them retain the working abilities of their ancestors, which may be difficult to live with in everyday life. These dogs make poor guards and protectors, as they are very easy-going with strangers. If not used for hunting, these dogs retain their love for water and a keen sense of smell, which makes them investigate everything. It takes much time and patience to housebreak and train a curious and very playful puppy. Adults remain puppy-like for many years.

The majority of dogs for adoption are senior; only occasionally you can find a puppy there. Senior dogs have their own advantages: they make better pets for the elderly, for families with children and for those that have little time for the dog. Senior dogs are less demanding and can be kept in an apartment with no yard. Short walks are enough for them to be in a good form.
