These two breeds are very similar in their original functions, temperament and size, so it is easy to predict the appearance of the dog when it grows up. Because of the prevalence and prominence of the breed, there is a high demand for purebred dogs, but not all breeders are trustworthy and reliable. Some breeders produce poor quality dogs and sell them to unknowledgeable buyers who are attracted by the image of the breed and know nothing about the responsibility dog ownership implies. Breed popularity leads to decreasing working abilities of the breed in general and producing mediocre dogs. Many volunteer organizations work to rescue, care for, and adopt abandoned dogs and educate the owners about the basics of dog care.
