Each organization helping abandoned dogs has a number of volunteer foster families where the animals live before new loving permanent homes are found for them. While in foster homes, the dogs receive all needed vet care, brought up to date on vaccination and are spayed or neutered. Before the dog is placed, it is important to learn its habits and temperament to find the best suited family. Aggressive animals with a bite history or elderly and incurable are euthanized if cannot be adopted for a long time.
