Also called Russian Retriever, Yellow Retriever.
The origin of the breed dates back to the 19th century, when there was a strong demand for hunting dogs. Sir Dudley Marjoribanks (later the first Lord Tweedmouth) was the first breeder who crossed high quality hunting dogs in an attempt to create a new breed. Several out crosses and inbreeding were used to improve and fix the best qualities of the new breed. The coat texture and color of the dogs of this time varied.
