Also called Russian Retriever, Yellow Retriever.
Originally hunting dogs, they are well balanced, alert, and eager. Males measure 23-24 inches at the withers, while females are smaller, and normally reach 21 1/2-22 1/2 inches. The breed standard is rather strict, and dogs 1 inch higher or lower should be penalized. Dogs weigh 65-75 pounds, and bitches weigh 55-65 pounds. Probably, the most attractive feature of the breed is its fine temperament. The dogs are likely to accept all members of the family and their friends. They certainly will alarm their owners on the strange noise they hear. However, the dogs' friendliness makes it not very good guard dogs.
