Washington State German Shepherd
The washington state german shepherd club will have a photo collection available on the pictures section of its site.
The international working line, the international show line, and the North American show line are the three major breed lined of these dogs. The dogs from the first line are praised for their working abilities and are used for work; two other groups are mostly show dogs and family pets. Besides, there are several other varieties of the breed. In Germany, there exist dogs that adhere closely to the old breed standard. A white variant of the breed was a fault, but nowadays it’s considered a separate breed. Long-coated and giant dogs have not yet gained recognition.

The breed has a long history; it originated in the 18th century. However the first dog of this breed was registered with the American Kennel Club in 1908 and its name was Queen of Switzerland. As the WWI began, the breed lost its popularity and actually was on the verge of extinction. During World War I, it was the obvious choice for a war sentry. When World War I broke out in 1914, all things related to Germany became taboo and the dog lost its popularity.
