The friesian horse can be found on most farms that specialize in breeding this type of horse and training is usuallly done on the farm.
The horses of this type are always black; there can be though the white markings on the body or legs. This horse holds it head high and proud with an arching neck; the gait is natural. The selective, careful breeding aimed at achieving the active hock action and high, extended from leg action.

The body of the horse is very strong and deep with a sloping shoulder. The stallions should be at least 15.3 hands by the age of four and mares must be at least 14.3 hands.
