This breed originated in the 1800s, and was valuable for its pointing and retrieving aptitude and high endurance. The breed was produced by crossbreeding the Water Dog, Labrador and the St.John’s Newfoundland. In the period of 20th century wars, the breed took a backseat to Labrador.
