The original aim of the breed – to look like the larger variety – is not yet achieved. Dogs of this type weight about 20-22 pounds; possess a huge skull, cloddy body and thick bone. This type retains all qualities of a full-sized breed: these little dogs are protective, loyal and always ready to please the owner. They can be easily kept in an apartment and require little grooming. Females are good mothers and never abandon the pups. The small variety of the breed is not recognized as purebred by the American Kennel Club and the dogs of this type are considered as a mixed breed.
