Efforts have been made to protect the species from going extinct and to reestablish the population of the animals also called Red Deer or Wapiti on the continent. In the wild these animals live 18-22 years.

These animals’ coat is dark reddish-brown and the neck with chestnut-brown and mane in bulls. At the end of the summer the coat changes to its brownish-gray winter color. These mammals grow and shed a set of antlers once each year.
