The Dutch Shepherd features a well-proportioned body, long muzzle and erect triangular ears. The eyes are slanting and dark, and the tail is curved. The legs are compact and round, yet well-muscled and flexible, and the toes are well arched.

The Dutch Shepherd was bred as a herding dog, and these days he is applied in various jobs and services. By the end of the 19th century he became more popular as a home pet, and in 1898 the Netherlandse Herdershonde Club was established. A puppy photo can be obtained from all breeders.
