Duck

A duck chick will usually look very similar to other chicks of the same breed. The two sexes come together in the period of mating though the male usually leaves when the incubation period begins. There are about nine to thirteen eggs that are laid at daily intervals. As soon as the eggs are hatched, the ducklings are led to water. Males are usually brightly colored and females are plain and brown. Although they can survive in a wide variety of habitats, these birds naturally have one universal need: water. These birds are hunted and the hunters attract them with special whistles that remind the whistles of either males or females. These birds are migratory. Their breeding habitats are usually freshwater marshes, lakes, slow-moving streams, marshy sloughs and ponds where they can find food and protection for the ducklings. When the offspring becomes independent from the parents, these birds migrate to coastal marshes, sheltered bays, shallow inland ponds and lakes or wet meadows. These birds are perfectly adapted to living near water sources; they feed on aquatic vegetation, snails and insects that are abundant near the coast. These birds have a number of natural predators and are popular as game birds. A duck chick will usually look very similar to other chicks of the same breed.
